Andhra Pardesh Govt turns blind eye to roller hockey teams

govt_turns_a_blind_eye_to_roller_hockey_teams_postnoon_news

Few people in the city are even aware of the fact that we are currently hosting roller hockey matches. The inter-state competition that has teams from Vizag, Karimnagar and Hyderabad got off to a flying start with a senior women’s match between Karimnagar and Hyderabad on Tuesday. The team from Karimnagar won by one goal. But despite the enthusiasm on behalf of the players, there were barely 50 people in the audience.

Roller hockey might enjoy a better popularity across the country, but in Andhra Pradesh it is barely acknowledged. For Hyderabadis, cricket still rules and other sports are relegated to the back burner. However, this lack of interest does not deter the players. “It’s our own interest and passion for this sport that drives us here. We have no support from the government in any way. In Hyderabad, many people are not even aware of this sport. It’s only our family and friends who come to watch the match and support us,” says Priyanka B, a national level player.

There are more than 900 roller hockey players in the city who have won several national championships. However, these players are self-supported and have no sponsorships whatsoever. Even the government of AP does not support them.

Despite hockey being conferred the title of national sport, there is no denying that it doesn’t play well for one to become a professional player in the country. Until 2003 the government gave each national player Rs 1165, but today they get nothing but a certificate. “Ten years ago, we had only eight teams from four districts but now we have 43 teams from 16 districts. Despite our players placing AP on the national hockey scene, we have no support from the government,” says Naveen Tataipala, joint secretary, Roller Hockey Technician Association.

Parents and teachers feel that this sport lacks awareness and support in Hyderabad. “There are so many students who get admission in good colleges because of this certificate. However, the State government seems to turn a blind eye to this. Players buy their own kit, uniform and spend from their own pocket for travelling and accommodation. Most players have to rely on their families to support them. But those who can’t are forced to let go of their dreams of becoming national level players,” says Anitha T, a parent.

govt_turns_a_blind_eye_to_roller_hockey_teams_postnoon_news_2

Despite the stadia for roller hockey being maintained well, it is the players who don’t get their due or encouragement of any sort. “In the last budget, Rs 6 cores was sanctioned to the ministry of sports. But ironically most of the money was used by the politician to build stadia for their personal gains and nothing was spent on the players,” says a member of the roller skater association of AP.

“In the last 14 years that I have been playing this sport, not once has the government done anything to support us. We travel to other cities to play and it is all at our own expense. There is no encouragement at all. We bring name and fame to the State but in return we don’t even get a token of appreciation,” laments Aarti Attal, captain, Karimnagar senior women’s team.

Cash prize Payment of rs. 75000 has not been given to Addiction Roller Hockey club, jammu

Mr. Parmeet Singh Chhatwal (Bawa),
Organizer of R.H.P.L.

It has been a really shameful act on your part to avoid our calls and emails constantly for more than 1 month. For how long young players will have to wait to get their reward money. Better Stop cheating. You organize an event and now you are not fulfilling your commitment. It is really disgusting on your part if you don't honour your commitments shortly, we will be forced to go to the media and expose your wrong doings. We are also planning to lodge a formal complaint with the police authority to imitate lawful action against you to teach you a befitting action. We are also going to write a detailed note to all the state associations not to entertain you in future as you are nothing but a fraud.

Spanish Federation an example in Roller Hockey Management

One of the big problems in Roller Hockey is their organization inside National Federations. Here in Rolling Together we like to present the best examples to follow in our Sport.
Concerning National Federations almost all Roller Hockey fans agree that the Spanish is the best one at this moment, and to prove it, are all the titles conquered in 2011:

CERH European Roller Hockey World Cup U-17
FIRS Roller Hockey World Cup U-20
FIRS Roller Hockey World Cup
CERH European Women's Roller Hockey Cup

Spain has won all the possible titles in 2011!!!

So if we want a best Roller Hockey is necessary to learn with the best, and Spain is the best teacher!!!

Macau a strange case, and Asia the asleep Continent

Since the beginning of Roller Hockey activity that Asia is one of the worst continents concerning it.
There are a lot of reasons for this situation:
  • CARS (Confederation Asia of Roller Sports), presided by Mr. Sheng Zhiguo, doesn't promote and develop roller hockey.
  • CIRH doesn't promote the rising of an Asian Roller Hockey Confederation like happens in Africa and Europe, which would have a main role in our sport.
  • Inline hockey is getting day by day much important, taking Roller Hockey to a second plan
  • Few countries play Roller Hockey, for example in last Asia Cup, only Macau, India, Taiwan and Japan were present (China, North Korea, South Korea, Pakistan, Hong Kong had been played roller hockey years ago).
  • Asian Cup is the unique international competition in Asia-there's any competition between clubs.
For example it's not decided yet the location of 2012 Asia Roller Sports Cup. "Hoje Macau" talks about China, but there's any confirmation, just some months before the competition, reveling all disorganization of CARS.

Casa de Portugal A in 2005 with 13 players (Where are them?)
Taking a brief look on Roller Hockey history, it's possible to observe that Macau has dominate the sport until today:
  • Asian Champion for 8th times
  • Unique Asian country to dispute FIRS World Cup
  • Unique Asian country to play Nations Cup in Montreux
Unhappily the situation seems to change forever, due to many facts. The president of Associação de Patinagem de Macau (Roller Sports Macau Association), António Aguiar, and their players accuse Macau Government to not build a new Roller Hockey rink, where could be possible to practice our sport. The unexistance of rink to play stopped the Macau Championship and the school bases program in Casa de Portugal (2005 and 2006 was the last time reported) wasn't reported any more.
Casa de Portugal A in 2006 with 11 players
The National Championship, was played usually for three teams connected to Portugal:
According to "Hoje Macau" Dom Bosco, the same rink that doensn't have conditions to practice roller hockey, received in last days of October the Inline Hockey Championship!!!!
Worst than that are the teams playing it... the same that played roller hockey until some years ago. All this situation is quite curious and revels that some people is lying. Seems that soon Roller Hockey will be substituted by Inline Hockey, forgetting all cultural connexion between Portugal and Macau, where inline hockey is not included.
Like happens in a lot of things in Macau, the Region doesn't resist to China invasion, and forget all it ancients.

Macau team in FIRS B World Cup 2011 in Dornbirn, Austria
Some months ago other newspaper from Macau, "Ponto Final" reported the opinion of Antonio Aguiar (APM president) concerning the actual presidence of CIRH, by Mr. Harro Strucksberg. He said that there were some movements to take off Mr. Harro, and he was a possible name to manage CIRH.

Rolling Together just has the doubt... How a man that is not able to manage roller hockey in his own region wants and thinks will be able to coordinate roller hockey all over the world???

India finish in the last position

Last match this morning vs. USA (source: Miguel Matos)

Once again the results were not good to India.
It was proved in Barcelos (Portugal), like in 2009 Bassano (Italy), that India has a long way to improve the quality of it Roller Hockey.
The level is quite far from the other countries what means that Federation must change the way of thinking. It's not enough just to send young players to a World Cup and let them play there.
A good example of working was Angola national team. Some years ago they had a level not compared to countries like Portugal and Spain.
The Angolan Federation made a big effort and support them to play the last season in Portugal. Also before the World Cup they were in Portugal to prepare the World Cup playing against Portuguese teams. Why RSFI doesn't to the same, or ask for an international coach to be in India preparing their national teams or formating the actuals national coaches?

All the results of India in the 5th FIRS Roller Hockey World Cup U-20

India 0 : 27 Argentina

India 1 : 22    England

Chile 15 : 0 India

South Africa 14 : 4 India

Don't Give Up is the lesson of the World Cup

Match against Argentina (Souce:hoqueipatins.com)
Yesterday our National team started the 5th FIRS World Cup U-20. Like we said here, the team didn't travel to Portugal expecting victories. The main goal is learn with the other countries, and give to our young players an opportunity to improve their roller hockey level.
Yesterday Argentina defeat with 27 goals against 0, our national team.

Match against England (Souce:hoqueipatins.com)
Today the task was not easy against England, and for second time we suffered a big loss.
This time the final score was 1-22. For the first time in the World Cup we scored a goal, being Samjoe Chintagunti the responsible for it.

Tomorrow it's the last match of the group phase, to our team. The opponent will be Chile, and one more time, our "soldiers" will have hard work.
